Parents always opt for the standard because 1) they never heard of a mini 2) they think babies need 5 feet of space to grow 3) space or money isn't an issue. Newborns don't need that much room and unless your baby is already 38' long, which I doubt, the mini is plenty of room. Why spend the money on a crib, then a toddler bed, then a full size when you can go this route and after they grow out of the crib put them straight into something that will last them most of their childhood.
